My name is Saumen Das, an artist by heart and practice. I was born and raised in Tarakeswar, Hooghly, a place deeply rooted in spirituality and culture, known for the sacred dham of Baba Taraknath. This environment has quietly shaped my inner world and artistic sensibility.
My journey into the world of art began under the guidance of my respected guru, eminent painter Shri Pradip Pradhan, whose mentorship played a vital role in shaping my artistic foundation. I pursued my formal art education at Government Art College, Kolkata, where I completed my Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) and later my Master of Visual Arts (MVA) in 2011.
Since 2015, I have been actively practicing as a working artist at the Kolkata Lalit Kala Akademi, continuing my artistic exploration and discipline till 2025.
Before fully committing myself to art, I explored various professional paths. My first job was in 2012 at an ITI company in Salt Lake, Sector 2. Over the years, I worked with multiple companies, B.Ed colleges, academic institutions, and schools across Kolkata and Hooghly. However, none of these roles could truly hold my mind or heart.
I have had the privilege of working with art institutions, creative organizations, private collectors, cultural events, and independent projects, delivering artworks with dedication and originality.
Over the years, my work has connected with art lovers, galleries, cultural platforms, and creative communities who value emotion, craftsmanship, and authenticity.
contact meI create paintings inspired by both nature and human nature. Through colors, forms, and expressions, my work explores the hidden emotions of the human mind, revealing stories that often remain unspoken.
My artworks reflect the silent dialogues of the human soul—joy, pain, loneliness, love, and contemplation—captured on canvas through thoughtful strokes and emotional depth.
Through my paintings, lifeless objects come alive. In their silent existence, conversations begin to unfold—of love, longing, separation, and pain—expressed through the language of my colors and brushstrokes.
I do not limit myself to a single medium. Whatever feels right at the moment finds its way into my work. For me, the medium never takes precedence—the idea and emotion always come first.
My paintings speak where words fall silent. They explore inner stillness, unspoken emotions, and the subtle movements of the human mind through form and color.
Nature in my work is not just scenery—it mirrors human emotions. Light, shadow, and form become reflections of joy, loneliness, hope, and conflict.
I value the journey of creation more than perfection. Each stroke carries thought, hesitation, and discovery, making the process an essential part of the artwork.
My artworks function as a visual diary—capturing moments, emotions, and reflections of time through evolving forms and textures.
Technique serves emotion in my work. I allow feelings to guide the hand, letting instinct shape the final form on canvas.
